30 Jan Round Up: Noteworthy: Montana’s Migratory Bird Stamp Contest Open Through February 27
In an effort to raise awareness for the importance of wetlands in the Montana ecosystem, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (MT FWP) is now accepting submissions for the 2026 Montana Migratory Bird Stamp contest through February 27. This contest, now in its third year, allows artists to submit artwork of a waterbird species that can be found in Montana, with participants encouraged to depict the animal in an obvious Montana setting.
The winner receives a $2,000 cash prize and will have their work featured in the Montana capitol by the governor’s office. The prize is organized by Montana’s Outdoor Legacy Foundation — a regular MT FWP partner — which supports fish and wildlife conservation projects across Montana, ensuring the community can maintain access to Montana’s public lands and streams.
Those who purchase a Montana migratory bird license will receive a free collectable sticker sheet showing the winning artwork, as well as information about the Migratory Bird Wetland Program. Purchases will also help support MT FWP and Montana’s Outdoor Legacy Foundation with wetland habitat conservation across Montana.
For those who do not hunt but would like to support wetland conservation, Montana Migratory Bird Stamp sticker sheets can be purchased through the Montana Audubon website. Proceeds support MT FWP’s wetland conservation work, which includes helping landowners and conservation partners fund projects that create and protect healthy wetland habitats for Montana’s many species of migratory birds.
