Round Up: Summer Music | Big Names Under the Big Sky

This summer, venues throughout the Northern Rockies are hosting some big names in music for all tastes, from country and 1980’s superstars, to classical chamber musicians and alternative favorites. Here are some to catch:

A free, family-friendly summer concert series, featuring New Orleans Suspects, Dirty Revival, Con Brio, a Classical Music Festival, and more.

Various Dates | Big Sky Brewing Summer Concert Series
Missoula, Montana |

Starting off with the Trey Anastasio Band on June 3, the summer lineup includes Sublime, Ben Harper, UB40, and a weekend of alternative favorites starring the Decemberists.

Bonner, Montana |

On the banks of the Blackfoot River, the summer concerts start off with Lyle Lovett, followed by Tedeschi Trucks Band, Pat Benatar, and Primus.

The second season at this 10,260-acre working sheep and cattle ranch and sculpture garden features a lineup of classical chamber music and recitals by renowned musicians.

July 7 – 9 | Montana Folk Festival
Butte, Montana |

The annual free event features multiple stages, with continuous live performances. You may not have heard of them all, but if you like folk, it won’t matter.

July 13 – 15 | Summer Music Festival at Roseberry
Roseberry, Idaho |

The 40th annual event features Martin Sexton, Maggie Koerner, and Gipsy Moon, among others.

July 14 – 16 | Targhee Fest Music Festival
Grand Targhee Ski Resort Driggs, Idaho | music-festivals

The 13th year of music features Michael Franti & Spearhead, Galactic, Leftover Salmon, Lukas Nelson (Willie’s son), and much more.

July 28 – 30 | Mountain Home Country Music Festival
Near Mountain Home, Idaho |

Keith Urban headlines with Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, and many more, at the base of Sawtooth Mountains.

July 28 – 31 | Red Ants Pants Music Festival
White Sulphur Springs, Montana |

In the middle of a rural pasture, Lucinda Williams leads the main stage lineup that also includes Asleep at the Wheel, James McMurtry, Mandolin Orange, and many more.

Aug. 4 – 6 | Sweet Pea Festival
Bozeman, Montana |

The 40th annual festival includes a parade, food, art, theatre, and live music, featuring The Motet, Moon Taxi, Cloud Cult and more.

Aug. 11 – 13 | Rockin the Rivers Music Festival
Three Forks, Montana |

Rock on with the likes of Blue Oyster Cult, Night Ranger, Alter Bridge, and many more.

Aug. 11 – 13 | Targhee Bluegrass Festival
Grand Targhee Ski Resort Driggs, Idaho | festival

The 30th annual event starring some of the biggest names in bluegrass, including The Infamous Stringdusters, Sam Bush Band, Railroad Earth, Tim O’Brien, and more.
