Streamflow Ups and Downs

For fishermen in the Northern Rockies, warm summer days often bring hopes of catching that beautiful 20 incher on a dry fly. As we near the end of June, rivers are beginning to return to their normal flow levels and clarity is getting better. But before you head out to your favorite river or stream, be sure to look at the streamflow gauges in order to prepare for your fly fishing adventure. Whether streamflows are high, normal, or starting to drop, knowing the conditions before you go should make for a more fun and hopefully a more successful trip.

Visit the USGS WaterWatch website for real-time information on river and stream levels.
